Scarpette
In my ongoing project, Scarpette (little shoe), I draw inspiration primarily from the form of a shoe, with some shapes also evoking the form of a bag. The project is deeply influenced by a shell on an old water basin in the garden of the RAMA art residency, Maceira, Portugal, where I began developing these models. My choice of materials reflects a fascination with raw and natural elements, particularly beeswax and copper wire, which I find appealing for their tactile and sensory qualities. Crocheting with copper wire yields especially intriguing forms that are both delicate and structured, while beeswax, when applied to cloth or paper, creates a textured, plaster-like surface that resonates with the aesthetics of Arte Povera.
The title Scarpette is a homage to Marisa Merz, a central figure in Arte Povera, who similarly worked with unconventional materials to explore the boundaries of art and utility.
