I completed my studies with a focus on creating a valuable fabric, specifically a handwoven stola—a traditional Chilean cloth worn over the shoulders for warmth. I crafted this stola using Baby Brushed Alpaca, sourced from a Peruvian alpaca farm. Despite my teacher, Dagmar (from Handgewebt in Berlin), advising me against using this yarn due to its similarity to mohair, which is notoriously difficult for weaving, I fell in love with its beauty as soon as it arrived from Peru.

The Baby Brushed Alpaca presented a significant challenge because its fine hairs tangled easily during the weaving process. To address this, I developed a special technique involving different patterns and had to painstakingly separate the panels by hand. Though it required immense patience and effort, the time invested in creating the stola was absolutely worth it in the end.
